Adaptive Parenting Online Course
Parenting is a personal, meaningful and often complicated experience. When you’re raising a child with extra needs the conventional parenting advice isn’t always enough. The Adaptive Parenting Online Course was developed based on our work with hundreds of families, and designed to give parents the most relevant information to take home to apply directly. Parents who take these classes will learn how to understand their child’s behavior and build new skills to navigate those inevitable challenges. Parents who feel stuck will find new paths to move forward in meaningful ways.
Any parent or caregiver interested in learning more can attend these classes. The content is especially helpful for parents supporting children with behavioral, developmental or medical concerns.
Live or On-Demand Options
There are options for how parents can participate in this class. Parents can sign up for the live synchronous online class which meets weekly for 13 weeks (limited spots available). These classes consist of about 50 minutes of teaching information, followed by 20-30 minutes of discussion time. This is perfect for those interested in discussing training topics and connecting with other parents who can relate to their struggles. Parents will also have access to the pre-recorded videos to revisit the information or share with another caregiver.
The second way to participate is the On-Demand option which gives you immediate access to all the training videos and learning materials so that you can do them at your own pace. Whether you are listening when you’re making dinner, or in the car as you drive to pick up your kids, the information is there when it works in your schedule.
Throughout these classes, we’ll talk about how you can take meaningful actions to support your personal values as a parent. This course also provides opportunities to learn through exercises and practice; including a digital workbook with 100+ pages to download that will support you to transform information learned into individualized action plans for your family.
Parent’s Feedback:
“In the beginning, signing up for a parenting class, I thought “I must be a bad parent, I’m signing up for a parenting class”. I don’t know why that thought kept going through my head. Maybe a stigma attached to it. In joining and attending class each week, I realized through this that I’m not a bad parent, maybe an even better parent for going. And the class certainly has given me the encouragement, support and “you got this” feeling that I will make use of for years to come. I’m so appreciative.”
“I found that I was able to be introspective about my own self and my parenting skills, hang ups, and areas for improvement. I liked all of the questions that were asked, and wrote them down so I could continue remembering to ask myself those questions in times when I need them. I also found just the general support of all of the other parents very nice. It’s nice to know you’re not alone. The exercises that brought new perspectives into thought were particularly helpful. And I really loved the matrix and can use it in the future!”

What is Adaptive Parenting?
Adaptive Parenting is an approach based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Contextual Behavior Science. The aim is to build psychological flexibility – the ability to adapt to unexpected life events. It is not a prescriptive parenting approach about what to do or not do, but rather focuses on how to be. Building personal resilience and flexibility naturally improves parenting skills and helps parents to be grounded and intentional with their decisions. With psychological flexibility, you can bend rather than break in the face of challenges. This allows you to persist and move towards what’s important despite hardship. The goal is to develop the mental elasticity to be self-aware, determine if your parenting is working in your context, and align it with your values. When parents learn to be Adaptive, they find the answers within themselves rather than needing external parenting advice.
